2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia vs Kia Stinger

2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia vs Kia Stinger

The Alfa Romeo Giulia and the Kia Stinger are both foreign brands taking a sizeable chunk out of the German manufacturing luxury sales. That's right. Move over BMW. The Alfa Romeo, relatively new on our shores, and the Stinger, a testament to Kia's versatility and diverse lineup are forces to be reckoned with.

Fuel Economy: 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia

The 2019 Giulia is 8 inches shorter and a little lighter than the Kia Stinger. Because of this and an innovative engine, the Giulia produces better fuel economy in the base model. The 280-horsepower 2-liter turbocharged inline 4 generates 306 pound-feet of torque while still getting as good as 24 city miles and 33 highway miles per gallon.

By contrast, the Kia Stinger offers a weaker base engine-a 2-liter turbocharged engine delivering only 255 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque-but still manages to give you inferior fuel economy. The Stinger's base engine only gets, at best, 22 city miles and 29 highway miles per gallon. That reverses when we go on to other engine options (more on that later), but if you're thinking of getting a standard model, the Alfa Romeo does more with less fuel.

Passenger Volume: 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia

We know what you're probably thinking. Since the Giulia is lighter and shorter, this car has to be pretty cramped inside, right? Not really. The Giulia actually boasts more overall passenger volume in its cabin than the Stinger does. Some of that extra space is due to Giulia's height, almost an inch and a half more than the Stinger's. The rest of that room we have to chalk up to smart use of interior space. The result is 1.5 cubic feet more in the Giulia. Neither of these small cars have much of a backseat. But you'll find more head room in the Giulia in both front and back. Besides, kids and shopping bags don't mind the lack of leg room.

Horsepower and Torque: 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia

We've already discussed how the Giulia has the better base engine. The Alfa Romeo also has the better upgrade, better by miles. We're talking about the Giulia's 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 good for 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. Is it fast? How does zero to 60 in 3.4 seconds sound?

The Kia Stinger also offers a better engine, but not as good as the Giulia's best. Theirs is a 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 delivering 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. It'll get you to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. But, as you can tell by the numbers, even the Stinger's best can't outdo the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia.
