For starters, the 2019 AF Giulia is fun to drive. Choose between an athletic 280-horsepower turbo-four and a frenetic 505-horsepower twin-turbo V6. The first one feels strong and sporty, the second one feels like a real sports car. Laser-precise steering and capable handling lets you carve up roads like butter. Real-wheel drive is standard but all-wheel drive is available in all but the uppermost trim level.
The Audi A4 gets close but doesn't have quite the same power as the AR Giulia. The Audi A4 does offer 190- or 252-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engines mated to a six-speed manual dual-clutch or seven-speed automatic transmission at no extra charge. You can opt for a high-performance version of the A4--the S4--but even its 354-horsepower turbocharged V6 engine is no match for the Giulia Quadrifoglio's potent engine. On the plus side, the Audi A4 gets 24 city miles and 33 highway miles per gallon, but that's the exact same fuel economy that the AR Giulia has.

At this point you're probably thinking that this Italian luxury car with potent engines has got to cost way more than the Audi A4. Actually, no. There's no reason to pay a lot more for more power. That's because the Alfa Romeo Giulia starts at just $38,300. For that relatively low price, you get 10-way power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, rearview camera, 6.5-inch display screen, console-mounted infotainment control knob, three USB ports, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and eight-speaker audio system.
By comparison, the 2019 Audi A4 starts at $37,400 and comes with these standard features: leather seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, sunroof, heated front seats, push-button start, infotainment system with 7-inch display, two USB ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and rearview camera. If those sets of tech options sound similar, they are. Astoundingly so, unless you're fixated on sunroofs or an extra USB port.
As you can see, there's almost no difference in price for the same standard tech. But the Alfa Romeo Giulia has superior engines right out of the gate, so we recommend you step inside one and see for yourself how far your money can go.
