2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia
Even if you don't know how to pronounce it, the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia is worth a closer look. This compact luxury car earned the title Motor Trend Car of the Year in 2018. We expect great things in 2019, since this model year carries over largely unchanged from last year. Most people think of Germany when they think of European imports, but this Italian brand is making a car that Americans are falling in love with. We'll go over what makes this little car special.
The Reason You're Here
We know why you're looking at an Italian luxury car. You want something beautiful on the outside and tons of fun to drive. The 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia goes zero to 60 in just 5.3 seconds. The Giulia shifts marvelously and there's next to no wheelspin as you're getting going. Steering is fine-steel precise. We recommend changing out the tires for something sportier, since the base Giulia comes with lackluster all-season tires.
One look at the Giulia is to fall in love. This Alfa Romeo sports a beautifully contoured hood, a V-shaped grille bisecting a lower grille, squinting headlights, and a roofline that conveys the idea of continuous motion. There are two wheel designs-18- or 19-inch wheels-and shorter frame give this sports car an aggressive stance, making the Giulia look like it's in runner's blocks waiting for the gun.
Small Back Seat, Tiny Trunk
The downside of this compact car is how all the compact floated to the back. There's a small back seat and an even smaller trunk. You have enough cargo room for about nine shopping bags, about 12 cubic feet. That lags behind the BMW Series 3, which manages 17 cubic feet, and the Jaguar XE, which provides 15 cubic feet. Meanwhile, the back seats are small enough to make shotgun fights the stuff of legends. Adults probably won't want to sit back there for more than a half hour. Kids, however, should do just fine.
Spacious Front Seats
Speaking of shotgun, no one will complain in the front seat. These are spacious and comfortable. Not minivan spacious, but more than you would expect in this class. Some say the Alfa Romeo Giulia is a class-leader in front seats. We'll let you be the judge. They come with leather upholstery and 10-way power-adjustable front seats, while optional features include upgraded leather and Alcantara upholstery, 12- and 14-way power-adjustable front seats, heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel, and Sparco carbon fiber racing seats.
While you're sitting up front, soak up the tech features. Standard ones include dual-zone automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, rearview camera, 6.5-inch display screen, Bluetooth, three USB ports, eight-speaker audio system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. You can upgrade to an 8.8-inch display screen, 14-speaker Harmon Kardon premium audio system, satellite radio, HD Radio, and navigation.
The Giulia is a beautiful piece of Italian craftsmanship. Unless you need a spacious backseat and large trunk, there's really no reason not to want this sporty, techy, and comfortable compact luxury car.
